"AM"

 source photo

I was thinking today as I was working about how different I am this time around.  I've been working in retail since I was 16, but I haven't been doing it for about 3 years now.  I put myself through school by working in retail and for that reason I really wouldn't knock it.  But I used to be pretty popular when I worked back in the day, and this time around I'm really very quiet and keep to myself.  There is so much drama swirling around me and I just can't take it...but last time I was totally in the thick of it.  This doesn't mean that much most people get more mature with age... But I was thinking about when I was young and I was always thinking about what kind of person I want to be...I am always drawn to very outgoing people, I wish I could be one of you...But always in my mind I would be taking mental notes of how I could be like this or that person.
Sometimes I still think about that "oh I wish I could be like..." but then I just laugh at myself cause now I just am. I am just me and you can't make a fish a bird.  And I quite like being a fish too.  Happy new week!

Me

1. When do you feel happiest?
~When I'm at home, around my family, and there's laughter.

2. How do you take care of yourself?
~I'm always in need of down-time...I'm pretty low energy so if I'm busy all day I really need a time of rest and quiet.  So I get that by taking a bath, reading a book, or watching an old movie.

3. Are you internally (by yourself) or externally (by others) motivated?
~Both, I'm really hard on myself, but I also have great parents who raised me well and out of my respect for them I live a life that shows them that I respect what they did for me.

4. What do you do for fun?
~For fun? I love to watch old movies, but my husband and I like to be outside...so my favorite thing to do right now is go for walks with my hubby. Also Make-up is worthy of a mention of fun...cause I love it!

5. What intimidates you?
~People...I can read a lot of people but there are some people I can't read who I stay away from (which makes my husband laugh because I am really obvious about it) Also some other people I can read, who are very "in your face" kind of  people, again I obviously stay away from them too...I'm noticing this more and more and how really obviously awkward I am around some people.

6. What is something you're proud of?
~I'm proud of my family...proud of my parents, sibling and their families, and my husband and my new family on his side.  I'm so thankful God provided me with such wonderful examples!

7. Finish this sentence. I never _____________.
~Complain...BA HA HA HA yeah right... I never eat fish.

8. Favorite vacation spot.
~Um...Disneyland!

9. Today is a (rate from 1 - 10).
~7

10. Finish this sentence. If you knew me really well you'd know _____________.
~You'd know that I still struggle with shyness and social issues.  I really have been put in a spot now where I have to be social as a "pastor's wife" But when I'm around my family, I let them do all the talking and I am very quiet. That is nice for me.

Geese

 Source photo

Every morning I get up before my husband (who is NOT a morning person) and I read blogs and do a little devotional.  But the past 2 mornings I've been hearing a new sound out side my open window.  Geese!
Last year or so I think I was watching a travel show about the French country-side and they visited a farm where they had lots of geese...I don't know what it is about them but I just love them.  I don't know if I ever want to come in contact with one because they can be mean but I like the way they look.  Any ways I told my mom I wanted one (cause I'm random like that, and I believe that all animals will be like they are in cartoons in heaven one day...so I'm compiling a list of animals I want)  ANYWAYS so I told her I wanted one and the next day I woke up to the sound a huge flock of geese flying north.  I figured it was a valentine from God, that he heard me and delights in the silly things I say...so now every time I hear them I think of my heavenly Father who loves me! Good morning!

A New Identity...

 source photo

Throughout my life I can remember certain characters I relate to that I've either read about or seen in a movie etc.  For example, when I was dating I really related to Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, because she knew what she was looking for in a man and stood up for herself.  (I can't say I was always perfect with that but when I had to I would get in to some verbal sparring that even Elizabeth would have been proud of.) Or when I was needing to get away I felt like Jo March from Little Women, who so desperately needed to chart her own path in life. Jo went to New York, I went to London.

But I think after you get married there is a period of time where you are trying to figure out your new identity.  At our wedding reception a dear friend was talking to me, at the very end of the night before we left, and just looked me in the eye and said that this will be an interesting time for me.  She said that right after she got married she went through a hard time, figuring out her new identity.  I didn't know what to expect but I'm so glad she shared that with me because I feel that way too.

So many things have changed, and I am so very happy with my husband, but then now who am I? I had 24 years of figuring out single Meg.  Married Meg?  Hmmm.  I still don't have a very clear answer about who I am now but I am thankful that God has been bringing me near so He can shape me.  But funny enough I have been watching Leave it to Beaver recently.   And I find myself relating to June Cleaver.  She is what I want to be, a house-wife, and she does it so well.  She is a sweet and gentle presence in her home.  She is very feminine and content at home.  I can't wait to start that part of my life when kids come and I can stay at home all the time, but we're just getting started!  (and I'm still on my journey figuring out ole' Married Meg)

It's a Wonderful Life...

Hello! Welcome to Zuzu's Petals! My name is Megan Fletcher and my husband and I live in Central California. We were married this past November, so we're enjoying Newlywed life.  We enjoy spending time with our families, playing games, going to Disneyland, and EATING! One of the things we don't see eye to eye on is movies.  Really! I love old movies and he likes new, fast paced films.  But still, classic movies are one of my passions!

That brings me to why I named my site Zuzu's Petals.  If from the movie It's a Wonderful Life. Like most family, we have traditions on Christmas Eve. My family watch It's a Wonderful Life every year on that night. Even when my siblings and I were too young to understand the movie my dad still insisted we watch it. I think that it just affirmed what my parents were trying to teach us all year round...to do and stand up for what is right.  At the end of the movie we all cry (even dad) I think it's because we realize what true sacrifice is and we remember when our son's, brother's, husband's, and dad's sacrifices that go unnoticed.

Anyways, I digress, I would love to share the little treasures in my life with you. From recipes, to shopping and decorating, and movies I love! And maybe just what's going on with me...I hope to see you soon!
