So..

 source photo

A week ago my world turned upside down...my hubbs got mysteriously very sick and then 24 hours later, was resting and recuperating and is now getting back to normal (thanks again for the prayers!)  He woke me up last Thursday at 5 am with a seizure.  He's never had one before, it doesn't run in his family and he didn't have a head injury.  It was like I described it...a total nightmare.  It's been a week and we still don't know why it happened, the Doctors say that not having an answers is the best case scenario. (Because "an answer" would mean something very serious.)  It seems to be pretty common. The more we read about it and talk to people the more stories we hear of unexplained seizures happening to people once in their lives and never again.  This seems to be his case since he's not had one again, since last Thursday night.

I had a conversation with the ER Doctor at 1 in the morning as they were medicating my sleeping husband, that recovery was going to be worse for me than it will be for him.  He doesn't remember them, he just has to go through the testing and the medication etc.  I will never forget the images, the panic, the staying strong and upbeat for almost 24 straight hours, standing next to a stranger in the emergency waiting room while he threw up in the trash can.  Traumatic.  I have never been so frazzled in my life!

I wanted to explain what happened because I just feel like God has a plan for all of our lives.  Some times we don't understand them (for example, the only explanation I have right now for this happening is that maybe some one wanted to scare the living daylights out of me?! yes? no?). But for some people things come easy for a while, they don't struggle with the same things you do.  But we ALL are going to struggle, be tested by fire, you just might not know when. For the past couple weeks my husband and I have been saying to each other "When we are so small, God is so big." we were saying it to encourage each other for a whole other reason...then trauma hits...and I have to really decide do I believe this? It was easier to say it and believe it before...but then all the lights go out and you are alone..."Now do you trust me to be as Big as I AM or not?"

My only answer is a humble "yes."

We never know what's really going on in people's lives, I really got a dose of compassion through this.  I am so grateful for the nurses and doctors who were Angels when I needed them! And I'm thankful for my parents who stopped everything to support Chris and I...I would be a wreck with out them.  And I am thankful to God for continuing to bless me with my husband!

Swimming Star

 source photo

The earliest memory I have of old movies is when I was around 4 years old.  My Great Grandmother drove her big yellow car (from the late 60's) over to watch me for the afternoon.  She turned on the tv and there it was....a beautiful old technicolor movie.  I didn't know it at the time but it was an Esther Williams movie.  Esther Williams was a swimmer...a glamorous swimmer! I guess you could call them musicals, but instead of big dancing numbers...they had big swimming numbers! I relate more to these because I grew up swimming my summers away...I was not exactly little miss dancer (side note: I did do ballet and tap when I was 6 years old, we had a recital and then after our "number" all the lights suddenly turned off and there were 12 screaming 6 year olds around me...I never went back) They are great films...I hope to see more someday! But for now I will say the Million Dollar Mermaid is wonderful, if you ever catch it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) Enjoy!

Better...

Things are better now...my hubs is recovering quickly, but still is taking it easy.  I so appreciate your prayers!  We really needed them and felt them.  When I was in a state of emergency my mind went into survival mode but God was watching out for me and truly gave me all the comfort that I needed! Thanks again girls!

A Nightmare

 source photo

I've just been through a nightmare...my husband became suddenly very sick yesterday around 5 am.  In 24 hours we made 2 trips to the emergency room.  He's doing better today but we are exhausted...I will try to explain more later.  I now know I can say I've experienced the "In Sickness" part of out wedding vows. I can't say that I have had much time to focus on God through this, besides pleading prayers, but today, in the quiet and calm today I read these verses:

Psalm 31:1-16 (New International Version)

Psalm 31

For the director of music. A psalm of David.
 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
       let me never be put to shame;
       deliver me in your righteousness.  2 Turn your ear to me,
       come quickly to my rescue;
       be my rock of refuge,
       a strong fortress to save me.
 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
       for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me,
       for you are my refuge.
 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
       redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth.
 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols;
       I trust in the LORD.
 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love,
       for you saw my affliction
       and knew the anguish of my soul.
 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy
       but have set my feet in a spacious place.
 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
       my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
       my soul and my body with grief.
 10 My life is consumed by anguish
       and my years by groaning;
       my strength fails because of my affliction, [a]
       and my bones grow weak.
 11 Because of all my enemies,
       I am the utter contempt of my neighbors;
       I am a dread to my friends—
       those who see me on the street flee from me.
 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead;
       I have become like broken pottery.
 13 For I hear the slander of many;
       there is terror on every side;
       they conspire against me
       and plot to take my life.
 14 But I trust in you, O LORD;
       I say, "You are my God."
 15 My times are in your hands;
       deliver me from my enemies
       and from those who pursue me.
 16 Let your face shine on your servant;
       save me in your unfailing love.

I would really appreciate your prayers today! Thank you friends!

Just a thought...

"I am slowly inching my way to 100 posts..." she thought in her head. Then she immediately thought of this worm. So she found a picture of it to share...Now she is pondering what she will do for her 100 posts celebration..."I think it'll be awesome!"
The End

I Can not Wait Any Longer

This is probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite movie for the summer time.  Ladies may I present The Parent Trap. Not the Lindsey Lohan one...puh-leeese! The 1961 version starring Hayley Mills.  I'm sure a lot of you have seen this movie...but I love it from start to finish.  I love the opening credits which has this adorable stop-frame sequence.  I love the style, I love the story, I love that it's filmed in California but not like "today's Hollywood" version of California...where the grass is green and not yellow.  Because hardly anywhere during the summer is the grass on the California hills green, it's yellow.  I love the parent's chemistry...I love how Maureen O'Hara is in her 40's and is still a knock-out! I love the house that most of the movie takes place in, so chic!  I love it love it!

What about you ladies? Do you have a favorite summer movie?

Miscellany Monday

1) I love Carissa...and I want to support her and her awesome blog.  But I haven't been participating because "grabbing buttons" frustrates me and I can't ever do it right.  So I just copied the image.

2) I love chips and salsa.  I can't live with out them right now...even though our California weather is unusually cool (which annoys me) I want my summer food!

3) I love the sale section at Anthropologie.  The things at that store are amazing...it's like they've been inside my dream world and pulled out items and placed them on a shelf and slapped a 100 dollar price tag on each item.  So when I go in I just walk straight to the back where the sale items are.  Today I bought these 8 inch tall letters (C&M for Chris and Meg) with cool colored cloth covering them for 7 dollars each.  I'm very happy with them.

4) I want to go antiquing now...but I think I'll take a nap instead...

One Year Ago...

 The ice cream we ate that night. The flavors we each picked out tasted amazing together we called it "ice cream affirmation"

One year ago my husband and I went on our second first date.  How can this be? Well we went out 2 years before, for one date, and it didn't go well and we didn't really keep in touch.  Then 2 years later we found each other again, and we've been together ever since. We knew a year ago that this date was proof of God's faithfulness.  We didn't know it on our first date that we would end up together, but God had a plan, and it was to work on us to make us perfect for one another. I'm thankful to all the people who encouraged me (Stephy's words--) "that God has perfect timing and a perfect plan for me!" Things have progressed so fast but we have been so happy and in love for a whole year now.  I hope we have many more years to come! I love you Buggs!

Broccoli Salad

 source photo

So I was never much of a Broccoli fan growing up.  When I was little I liked to look at them and play with them because they were cute little trees...but I hated eating them.  I remember once putting them in my mouth chewing slightly and moving them into my cheek pockets like a hamster and them excusing my self to the bathroom where I spit them out into the toilet. Happily I have progressed from my sneeky ways...well at least with regards to broccoli I have, and now can eat it quite happily.

Here is a recipe that I am in love with right now:

Broccoli (fresh)
Dried cranberries
Bacon
1 Red Onion (chopped, you can use less if you don't prefer onions)
Mayo
Salt and Pepper

Ok so this recipe is super easy and doesn't require measurements...you can't mess it up.  So first you want to take at least a whole stock of broccoli, wash and cut it up into easy to fork bites.  Throw them in a big bowl. Chop your onion, you can use less onion if you prefer.  (I know some people don't care for onions but the red onion is mild and sweeter that the others) Add that to the broccoli.  Then hopefully at this time your husband is cooking off the bacon for you.  (we used half of a pack 6 slices, it needed more but we're making BLT's this week so..) Then once that is cooked chop it up and add that too.  Then you're going to add the dried cranberries (a handful or two).  Now it's time for the mayo.  You'll want to eyeball it.  I don't care for mayo so much that I want a lot...I just have enough to cover everything lightly.  then Salt and Pepper it tasting periodically to see if it's just right.  Then Enjoy!
